Hi, I'm Cihat
I was born in Bursa and grew up in its historic centre. My school years were spent around the bazaar, and my family's business is there. So when I talk about Bursa, I start with my own neighbourhood.
I spent six years of my life in Europe, living in Brussels and Tallinn. In those years I explored many roads by bike and hiked around Lake Como and along the trails of Cinque Terre. That's where I saw how different it is to get to know a place on foot, listening to its stories.
When I came back to Bursa, I wanted to share the city through its nature and cultural heritage. Today I'm a licensed guide, telling the stories of Bursa's trees, mountain, orchards and streets.
How I guide
- With curiosity
- We stop in front of a tree, a rock or an old han and ask, ‘why is it here?’ We look for that answer rather than reciting facts.
- With sources
- After every walk I write up what I talked about, with sources, and follow up on the questions I couldn't answer.
- Together
- Questions, touching and smelling are all welcome. The walk takes its shape from the group's curiosity.
Community
In Bursa I started plant-watching and mushroom-watching groups, and a book club that reads nature and ecology books together.
