Along the way

  • Meeting plants that grow only on Uludağ
  • Why do mountains act like islands?
  • Marble and granite: plants that choose their rock
  • A legacy of the ice ages

The story of this route

High mountains behave like islands, cut off from the lowlands around them. Plant communities stranded up high after the ice ages slowly turned into species of their own. Uludağ's endemics are the result of that long isolation.

The link between rock and plant is another main thread: different species live on marble and on granite. We get to know the plants by looking and photographing, never picking.

Who it suits

Plant lovers, nature photographers and walkers.

What to bring

  • Hiking shoes
  • A windproof jacket and a warm layer
  • Water and snacks
  • A camera or hand lens, if you have one
